PNG Lewas Win Over Samoa in Day 3, Match 5 of PacificAus Sports Cricket Invitational

Port Moresby, PNG – The PNG Women’s National Cricket Team, the Lewas, delivered a strong performance today as they secured a four-wicket victory over Samoa Women in Match 5, Day 3 of the PacificAus Sports Cricket Invitational.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, the Lewas made full use of the conditions with a bowling display that dismissed Samoa for 64 runs in 17 overs.

PNG’s veteran all-rounder Pauke Siaka led the balling attack, taking 4 wickets for just 3 runs in her three overs, including a maiden.

She was well supported by Dika Lohia, who picked up 2 for 7, and Mairi Tom, who also took 2 wickets. Samoa’s top scorer was Taalili Iosefo, who managed a gritty 22 off 25 balls, but the PNG bowlers maintained consistent pressure throughout the innings.

Samoa's batting order crumbled with four batters dismissed as they struggled to make score. Chasing 65 for victory, the Lewas faced early setbacks, losing wickets at regular intervals.

However, steady contributions from the middle order ensured they reached the target in 12.2 overs, finishing at 66 for 6. Despite effort from the Samoan bowling attack, PNG's batters built score.

PNG's Pauke Siaka was named player of the match with an outstanding balling attack displayed on field. PNG claimed their second win today in the tournament.

The PacificAus Sports Cricket Invitational is an important platform for showcasing the rising talent in Pacific women’s cricket.
