Australia Indigenous Women Defeat Vanuatu in Final Day's of PacificAus Sports Cricket Invitational

The final day of the PacificAus Sports Cricket Invitational had the Australian Indigenous Women’s cricket team cruise to a commanding eight-wicket victory over Vanuatu Women today (Saturday 21, June) at Amini Park.

Vanuatu's women cricket team, were the first to bat but unfortunately were bundled out for just 60 runs in 16.1 overs.

The Australian Indigenous bowling unit put on an impressive display, with Ella Hayward leading the attack with impressive figures of 4/10 from her four overs. She was well supported by Maddison Spence, who claimed 3/10 in her three-overs. Christina Coulson also chipped in with a wicket to wrap up the innings.

Despite a patient start, Vanuatu’s top and middle order crumbled under relentless pressure. Only three batters; Rachel Andrew (10), Alvina Chilia (10), and Susan Stephen (10), managed to reach double figures. The rest of the lineup failed to capitalise, with four batters dismissed for ducks.

Two run outs further compounded the Vanuatu innings, which ended with the team all out for 60. The Australia Indigenous Women chased down the modest target in just 11 overs, finishing at 62/2.

Openers Ella Hayward and Asha Learoyd laid a solid score, before the chase was completed with minimal resistance from the Vanuatu bowling attack.
