Chants of “Oro Oro” welcomed Cricket PNG to Popondetta at the latest Brian Bell Village World Cup Female Under 15 Series, supported by the NZ High Commission on Wednesday May 18. The tournament was supported strongly by Robin Dogia and his entire Popondetta Cricket Association Committee, along with other volunteers and supporters from the region, embracing the first time this tournament has been run in Oro. Students from Igora Primary School, Resurrection Primary School, Hohorita Primary School, Popondetta Primary School and Popondetta Secondary School enjoyed the day representing Australia, Bangladesh, West Indies, England, India and New Zealand.

Panamex PNG won the Trukai VPL Final at Amini Park on Sunday May 15 by 274 runs over Koita Warriors. Panamex PNG after struggling in week 1, turned into knockout cricket experts, first beating Northern Alexanders in their Quarterfinal, before defeating the favoured and previously unbeaten Gamoga Lawyers Spirit of Rigo off the last ball in their Semifinal.

The Brian Bell Village World Cup Female Under 15 Series, supported by the NZ High Commission continued its journey around PNG with the fourth event held in Lae on Wednesday May 11. Four teams made up of students from Taraka Primary School, AOG Christian Academy, Haikoast Primary School, Omili Primary School and St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School represented England, West Indies, Bangladesh and PNG.

Cricket PNG, together with BSP Bank, announced that BSP Bank will continue to sponsor the BSP School Kriket Program, now into its thirteenth year. The sponsorship includes funding staff, including training, and ensuring equipment is provided to the regions so young children can participate in cricket for the first time.

The 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in Papua New Guinea will be held at 3pm on Friday 17 June 2022 at Cricket Haus – Amini Park.

Gamoga Lawyers Spirit of Rigo and Koita Warriors had a Mother’s Day to remember, going unbeaten and automatically qualifying for the semi-finals of the Trukai VPL. Both teams are now in the box seat for the first prize of PGK 20,000 on Sunday the 15th of May.

Amini Park will be alive with the first Trukai VPL for 2022 kicking off. The six franchise teams, Fairprice Furniture Mambas, Panamex PNG, Gamoga Lawyers Spirit of Rigo, Northern Alexanders, Koita Warriors, Zara Wanderer’s will start playing from 9am, each hoping to win the Trukai VPL 2022 Cup and first prize of PGK 20,000.

Following on from the Brian Bell Village World Cup Female Under 19 Tournament, supported by the NZ High Commission that brought in 48 of the most talented young female cricket players to Amini Park, Cricket PNG is pleased to announce further development camps for 2022.

The Brian Bell Village World Cup Female Under 15 Series, supported by the NZ High Commission is going out to the regions over April and May.

The first ever ICC Female Under 19 World Cup will be held in 2023. Cricket PNG has qualified to be able to send a team to the ICC East Asia Pacific Qualifiers hosted by Indonesia in Bali July 2022, along with Samoa and hosts Indonesia. The winner of this qualifying tournament will gain direct entry to the World Cup.

The 15th One Day International for PNG in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 was the charm for the Kumul Petroleum PNG Barramundis, winning their first match in this league. 

The Brian Bell Village World Cup Female Under 19 Tournament, supported by the NZ High Commission was played over the weekend of March 19/20 at Amini Park, with the New Zealand team taking out top honors.
